2012 London Olympics Photos

Gabrielle Douglas must be at the top of my greatest 2012 Olympic Games Athletes; and the whole world needs to know why, the new generation included:

It was said every year, before Gabrielle Douglas’ victory in London in Olympian Gymnastic discipline, especially by the French sports commentators on TV or newspapers, that no Black Gymnast will ever win a gold medal. It is interesting now how that same French press decides not to remind us that humliating statement and apologize for their mistake!

Sports commentators have not always the bad guys in that perspective. When growing up, I liked to ask teachers and friends-converted-experts around me, why a Black woman will never win at Gymnastics and ended up always semi-sorry and semi-astonished at the answers, which were nice but strongly ambiguously double-edged. I heard too many “Blacks’s bodies are way too lean for specific postures” or “Black’s bodies are impossible to discipline” or “You can do more with your bodies. But Gymnastic? I am sorry, but the kind of concentration gymnastic requires is just not for Blacks!”.

And hearing without listening to them, the teenager I was, always reacted with conviction: “I don’t believe you and time will tell. There is probably no Black girl out there interested in Gymnastic now; and this is why there is no gold winner”.

Today, imagine my joy at Gabrielle Douglas’s victory as a Gymnast in London Olympics, Véro, my best friend in Switzerland; and “joy” is a major understatement.

One thing is constant to me about the Olympics though: “Every 4 year, God gets his children from the whole world to play together”, I thought that way when I was not even 10, and I still do.

London Olympics has prepared us for an incredibly beautiful Rio de Janeiro and amplified the passion in the Olympic Games in thousands of children of God worldwide.

London was perfect for 2012 Olympics. And incredible but true, I prayed God to get the 2012 Olympic games in London, probably as thousands of British people. But my holier spirit is telling me that Rio de Janeiro Olympics is going to be even better to me, and this is only because I got more in common with Brazil, I know! I guess I am speaking like this, only because I missed the inauguration and ending of London Olympics, and I can’t wait for their DVD’s.

“London Olympics is the best Olympics Games of my whole life, actually and the best event I have ever (partially) experienced in Europe.” is my guardian Angel whispering.

Make it a pair of golds for Gabby Douglas, who added the all-around title to the one she won with the U.S. team two nights ago. The 16-year-old girl known as the ‘flying squirrel’ flipped, twisted and propelled her way to the front of the competition. She finished with a score of 62.232, less than three-tenths ahead of Viktoria Komova of Russia, to become the first African-American competitor to claim the title.
